Bird Watching and Nature
The enthralling and peaceful surroundings of this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) make this an ideal holiday location for nature lovers and bird watchers.
With such diverse habitats, that include forest, coastal wetlands, river and heathland, within easy distance of the Mill, there is ample opportunity to use your binoculars or take that elusive wildlife photograph.
The Mill itself has a rich local wildlife population including birds of prey, deer, wetland birds and ducks, riverbank animals etc. The reed beds to the front of Mill, looking down the Butley River attracts waders, ducks and birds of prey such as Marsh Harriers and Barn Owls. The fresh water mill pond to the back of the mill attracts small birds and mammals, including Kingfishers.
Rendlesham and Tunstall Forests
|
Rendlesham Forest and Tunstall Forests provide miles of mixed woodland for forest wildlife and deer. The Foresty Commission occasionally arrange organised wildlife walks.
In addition to a number of small local nature reserves, the RSPB and National Trust have reserves within easy reach along the Suffolk Coast.
